I usually wake up around 6am, have a cup of coffee (black) on my way to the gym and then train clients until 10am. I come home and make this green protein shake as my first meal of the day. I try and give myself a 12 hour window of no food, starting from my dinner the night before to my breakfast the next day. This fasting per
iod has helped me stay lean, and this shake helps satiate me throughout the day. Chia seeds, as I have posted about before, are a great appetite suppressant. They absorb a ton of liquid, even while in your body, so they help you feel full. I also love adding matcha to my shakes as an added metabolism booster. It gives me a little extra energy too. And since I love the creaminess of milk, but don’t love the calories and sugar content, I substitute it with Unsweetened coconut milk. Its almost 1/3 less calories, and less than 1 gram of sugar!
Here’s the recipe :
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon slivered almonds
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 cup spinach
1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
1 packet or scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use APEX 130cals 25g protein)
1/2 frozen banana (add ice cubes if you don’t have frozen banana)
approximately 325 calories
